About the Artist
Tara Heinzen is a ceramic artist based in Phoenix, Arizona, whose work is dedicated to facilitating and fostering connection through the medium of clay. With over 28 years of experience, Tara began her journey in ceramics at Delta College in Stockton, CA and has since expanded her expertise through workshops, courses, and independent study. Her artistic practice is deeply influenced by her upbringing in the Central Valley of California, where the natural beauty of rivers and earth has always been a source of inspiration.
Tara’s work reflects her personal journey of physical and spiritual recovery, transforming challenges into opportunities for growth. Her handbuilt pottery are formed with the intention of allowing organic prints, shapes, and cracking textures to remain, as a tactile reflection of the perfectly imperfect features in nature and humanity. Her sculptural pieces integrate carved and sculpted pottery with mixed media elements, such as wood and glass, symbolizing the diversity and unity inherent in life. Through her workshops, she invites participants to explore their inner landscapes, encouraging them to infuse their energy and intention into their clay creations. This collaborative process fosters community and connection, allowing individuals to express their personal narratives through art.
Tara believes that art serves as a powerful connector, transcending individual experiences to foster a sense of unity and shared understanding in a diverse world.
As Tara continues to evolve as an artist, she remains dedicated to using her craft as a vehicle for expression and connection, inviting others to join her in creatively exploring these themes within themselves, with the earth, and community.
